This is Day 9 from the Journal Challenge:
How did your 24 hour social media fast go? It was great for me! I definitely got to read more of my book for the month and I am going to continue to scroll less and stay productive more!
Yesterday, we talked about guarding our hearts. We renounced some stuff that is in our lives. However, I have learned that you can RENOUNCE things but they STILL come back to attack you because you haven’t dealt with the ROOT cause of that insecurity. Satan WILL tempt you in those areas again. It doesn’t mean you aren’t free because you are — he just wants you in bondage again.
I believe that rejection is planted in our hearts by the enemy through some door. Rejection was planted in my heart while I was in my mothers womb. Satan is crafty like that — he will plant those things in our hearts as babies and we will watch things harvest as teenagers and adults.
I remember the first time that I felt rejected that I knew of. I was in 7th grade and these kids played a joke on me. They prank called me and pretended to be the most popular boy in school. The “boy” asked me to be his girlfriend and…. I accepted. I was so excited! My CRUSH wants to date me! Yass! AND the most popular boy in school?? I got to school the next day and quickly found out that.. I was the laughing stock of the school.
I was embarrassed.
I was frustrated.
I didn’t feel like I was enough.
I didn’t feel pretty enough.
I looked in the mirror and I hated myself.
I didn’t look like the other girls.
I was biracial at an all white school.
Has anyone ever felt that way? Has life handed you something where you don’t feel like you’re pretty enough or whatever enough?
The DEVIL IS A LIAR!
Our identity comes from what Jesus did for us.
We are ENOUGH BECAUSE OF HIM!
Even in knowing that, I took the mindset of my 7th grade life into my adulthood. My response towards the rejection was winning. Because if I was winning, I was in control and I wouldn’t be hurt. I joined track. I still have records at my middle school from running.
So what did I do as an adult when I felt rejected, not enough or whatever enough?
I had to be in control. I dated guys that shouldn’t have made it past hello because I could control them. I would self sabotage relationships because I didn’t want to get hurt. I also filled that void with working hard, “winning” and running myself into the ground.
What is your response when people reject you? What is your response when you feel insecure? What is your response when people don’t like you?
What are your coping mechanisms?
Winning is great but not when you run past God to try to prove to people that you’re enough.
Relationships are great when God sends them, not when you try to make an idol out of a man.
Sex is great in the confines of marriage — not to get back at your boyfriend that broke up with you.
Drugs ain’t never great.
Drinking? Whats your motive? Are you drinking a glass of wine with a meal or are you drinking to “relax and forget about your day?” Jesus tells us to cast our cares unto Him, not unto wine.
Porn ain’t never great.
Renounce these areas. Then, when the temptation comes to fill those voids again, pass the test! God gives us the ability to pass every test that comes our way!
1 Corinthians 10:13
“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
God longs to fill those voids in your heart. LET HIM.
I’m so passionate about this area because I struggled with INSECURITIES my WHOLE life. I almost allowed for the enemy to RUIN my life because of how I felt about myself. I want to share how God set me free in this 4 part video that I recently recorded. It’s called “Rescue Me from my Insecurity” and with the videos comes a FREE workbook. Check it out if you’re struggling in this area. If you keep finding that your past is trying to ruin your future, let’s CHANGE that.
So, again, today is day 9. Grab your journals and write “Day 9” Tomorrow is Day 10 and so on. If this is your first day joining the challenge, for you — it’s day 1. If you haven’t grabbed your journal or a book to read for the month — find one! If you need some help, I have journals and books HERE. I will rush ship everything to you!
If you’re joining the group late, feel free to ask one of the ladies to send you the previous days. I cannot send individual emails with the days.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the details of the Journal challenge, check it out HERE.
ALSO, every week, I will be giving you a NEW scripture to meditate on for the week. The goal is to meditate on it daily AND memorize it. Even if you’ve already memorized the scripture — then meditate on it. Just roll it over in your mind, think about it, focus on it, break it down and study it in a brand new way.
WE HAVE A NEW CHALLENGE FOR NEXT WEEK! NO SUGAR next Wednesday. January 15th.
I’m not talking about the natural sugars in fruits. I’m talking a about candy, cookies, cupcakes and all of that other stuff. Let’s discipline our flesh!
Here’s this week’s scripture to memorize:
Romans 12:2
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Last week’s scripture is:
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT Version)
“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all that you do and He will show you which path to take.”
Just a few things!
